METHODOLOGY

How we score each table

Every restaurant in the guide is visited in person. We score the full experience, not just the plate in front of us, using eight weighted criteria. The weights reflect how much each dimension shapes a memorable night out; together they inform the overall score you see on each listing.

Higher weights mean that criterion carries more influence on the final assessment. The numbers are editorial constants across the guide so comparisons stay consistent from one venue to the next.

  • Venue
    Weight
    80 / 100

Evaluates the physical quality of the space, layout, cleanliness, and overall presentation. A well-maintained venue signals professionalism and sets the tone before the meal begins.

  • Table Settings
    Weight
    70 / 100

Assesses the quality and care of tableware, linen, and mise en place. The details on the table communicate the level of intention behind the dining experience.

  • Ambiance
    Weight
    80 / 100

Covers lighting, acoustics, music, and atmosphere. Ambiance shapes how guests feel throughout the meal and drives repeat visits.

  • Position
    Weight
    80 / 100

Evaluates the restaurant's location, accessibility, and street presence. A strong position maximises discoverability and foot traffic.

  • Service
    Weight
    95 / 100

Assesses attentiveness, knowledge, and warmth of the front-of-house team. Service is the most memorable variable of any dining experience.

  • Punctuality
    Weight
    55 / 100

Measures timing across the meal, from seating to courses to the bill. Consistent pacing reflects kitchen discipline and respect for the guest's time.

  • Food
    Weight
    100 / 100

Evaluates the quality, creativity, consistency, and presentation of dishes. This is the core of the experience and carries the highest weight in the final score.

  • Value for Money
    Weight
    90 / 100

Assesses whether the overall experience justifies the price point. Strong value perception is key to positive word-of-mouth and return visits.
